Thousands of Caregiving Jobs Available at Online Job Fair on Tuesday
Home-care workers needed to assist Riverside County’s growing aging population

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — Committed, compassionate people are needed to help older and disabled individuals with in-home care. Interested candidates can apply for available paid positions at an online job fair on Tuesday (Oct. 5).

Riverside County is recruiting thousands of home-care workers for its In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) public registry, which matches clients with trusted caregivers. The Oct. 5 online forum, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., allows jobseekers to chat live with recruiters and apply for registry caregiver positions through online self-registration.

IHSS is a state program Riverside County administers to assist eligible Medi-Cal recipients who are older, blind and/or disabled. The program is needed more than ever as one in every five of the county’s 2.5 million residents is age 60 or older – a population projected to swell by 250% in coming decades.

“We’re looking for people who have a passion for serving our growing aging population and other vulnerable individuals. Our caregivers are vital to helping clients lead full and independent lives as much as possible,” said Eva Krottmayer, executive director of IHSS Public Authority, which maintains the registry.

About 34,000 caregivers countywide provide direct support services to over 40,000 older adults and disabled individuals through IHSS. Krottmayer says the need for home-care workers is especially great in the Coachella Valley, Anza, Blythe, Idyllwild and Hemet.

IHSS caregivers currently earn $14.50 an hour, have flexible schedules, and receive benefits such as paid sick leave.

Applicants must pass a background check, drug screening and be able to perform caregiver responsibilities including household chores, meal preparation and bathing. Prospective caregivers do not need experience, will have access to training and, if requested, will receive essential protective gear to protect against the spread of COVID-19.

Prospective caregivers can also apply by contacting Riverside County’s IHSS Public Authority at 1-888-960-4477 Mon. to Fri. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
