THIRTY FIVE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES CELEBRATE ADOPTION
Ceremony Raises Awareness of the Need for Committed Adoptive Families
Riverside County- November is National Adoption Month, and Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) celebrated with community partners to honor the adoptions of 35 children during the 9th annual Adoption Finalization Day event.
DPSS Children’s Division recognized National Adoption Month on Saturday, November 5, 2016, as Riverside County Superior Court Commissioners and judges finalized the adoptions of 35 children to adoptive homes.
“This celebration gives our staff and families the opportunity to celebrate adoptions made through Riverside County Children Services. It also gives children who have found a loving, stable, and permanent home a way to celebrate their newly formed families,” said Susan von Zabern, Director of DPSS.
For the first time DPSS Children’s Services Division teamed up with Riverside County athletes to create a special adoption awareness calendar. The new “2017 One Team-One Dream” calendars were revealed at the adoption celebration event. One Team-One Dream calendars feature Riverside City College football players, cheerleaders and dance team members and 34 children who are waiting to find a forever family.
November is National Adoption Awareness Month and a time to recognize the successful adoptions of Riverside County’s foster children. On any given day there are approximately 110 foster children waiting for permanent adoptive homes in Riverside County. Riverside County Permanency (Adoptions) Programs is continually in need of committed individuals/couples to adopt our most difficult to place children. Children of minority backgrounds, sibling groups, children over the age of five years old and children with special medical/behavioral needs continue to wait the longest for loving homes.
National Adoption Day is a collective effort to raise awareness of the more than 100,000 children in foster care nationwide who are eligible for adoption. Anyone interested in fostering or adoption can contact DPSS.
