Social Services partners with Harvest Church to bring Christmas to families

Riverside– Angela Martinez has fond memories of receiving a bicycle and other presents as a child, so this holiday season her family was especially thankful for the chance to participate in a Christmas celebration at a time when she was facing adversity.  Martinez along with more than 100 children from Riverside County enjoyed gifts, treats, and holiday music atop Riverside City Hall on Monday afternoon.

Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey made an appearance to wish the families a happy holiday.

The Department of Public Social Services Children’s Services Division (DPSS) together with Harvest Church in Riverside, organized a Holiday Open House for customers with the DPSS Family Maintenance and Family Maintenance Volunteer Programs.  The casual event allowed families, like Martinez’s, to pick up gifts at Grier Pavilion while enjoying a visit with Santa.  Harvest Church donated bicycles, games, toys, and treats for families across Riverside County through the DPSS programs.

To add to this, social workers, supervisors and foster care staff helped organize and celebrate with the families.  This month more than 425 children will receive gifts through the collaboration with and generosity of Harvest Church.
