Self-Service Options Encouraged as Social Services Expands Lobby Hours
Customers are asked to apply for and access benefits online whenever possible
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Ca.— The Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) is beginning a gradual and limited reopening of some of its lobbies starting June 15, but encourages customers to continue using self-service options to apply for and manage their benefits.
New and existing customers can apply for food, cash and medical assistance on C4Yourself.com or the C4Yourself mobile app. C4Yourself is a one-stop shop to manage CalWORKs, CalFresh, and Medi-Cal applications and benefits.
“Our communities have significant needs right now and the available self-service options are an easy and convenient way for our customers to manage their benefits 24 hours a day from home without having to visit an office,” said Allison Gonzalez, assistant director of Self Sufficiency.
DPSS’ Self Sufficiency has processed more than 100,000 new applications since the coronavirus pandemic surfaced in March. Cal-Fresh applications have doubled in that time, with 4 out of every 5 customers accessing services through the C4Yourself portals. Increased use of self-service options also helps reduce foot traffic as DPSS gradually and safely expands business hours for the public.
The expanded hours include a two-hour walk-in period for customers who don’t have phone or internet access. All other in-person service is by appointment only, which can be made by calling 877-410-8827.
Several safety measures will be in place including screening questions at the doors. The number of people allowed in lobbies will be limited and determined by the size of the space. All who enter must maintain 6 feet of physical distancing and wear facial coverings over their noses and mouths. Face coverings will be provided to customers who don’t have them.
